Make yourself a sanctuary

Exodus 25:8-9

And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle and of all its furniture, so that you shall make it.

We are to make a sanctuary within us, so God can dwell within. Not a building but a place in each of our hearts.

Make yourself exactly as God has shown through the life of Jesus Christ His only Son. Jesus is the pattern laid out perfectly in the bible.

The one point that amuses me is that He says “and all of its furniture” – now furniture can be clutter or useful or restful – does God want us to be at rest with Him – surely yes! Does God want all our clutter and ideas – surely yes again to our ideas, but God very clearly says he will take our dross and burn it away, it will become like the grass that withers away.

Does God want us to be useful and help to build the kingdom – surely yes!

I pray we build Gods kingdom today as we build and perfect this inner sanctum where God seeks to dwell – within us.

Amen

    1. Thanks for your comment, yes I agree, God will and does take our clutter and deal with it. Perhaps clutter was an unuseful word. God took all my clutter and badness and dealt with it. Furniture serves a purpose, but I do not think God wants us to narrow our interests, but dream and expand our views of Him. We serve him by being imaginative and going out to visibly display the kingdom.

      1. I think I used the phrase without explaining context and so I apologize. By narrowing our interests I mean that we should find and focus on the purpose God has in our lives rather than getting tossed around by an overabundance of good things that leach time away from the best things. It is better to do three things with excellence than ten things with mediocrity.
