Life as a river

Sitting on a rock, near Inverness in the middle of a river gave me a wonderful chance to pray and ponder life. Do we sit still listening to our surroundings and think? Here we have a river that has a slow flowing section and then a quick descent to another section. How life echoes this image, but our faith tells us that we are sat on the rock – Jesus and are not a twig being tossed every direction by the current.

Sometimes I feel life is slow with not much going on and then there are times where I don’t seem to have a spare moment propelled through the moment, I think this is normal, but despite the busyness of life my faith keeps me assured that God has it in hand. Perhaps the rapids remind us that sometimes these fears occasionally come back, that we are sinners, that we are not worthy – but like the bridge I am once again reminded of Jesus – the bridge between. We are forgiven and even though we are not worthy by our own efforts, God accepts us through the blood of his Son, through our repentance.

Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.

2 JOHN 1:8

I think of any sin and cast a leaf into the river, through repentance I am reminded that my sin through the blood of Jesus, once given for all. We only have to let go of sin and like the leaf it floats away never to be seen again. We are worthy through Him.

Lord God, guide us through the river of life, be our rock so we are not anxious or left without hope. Help us all to repent and let go of any sin and be moulded into a child of God, through the example of Your Son, and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
