Hearing God’s Voice Clearly

Do you ever feel somedays like God is not listening, perhaps you feel you are such a sinner, so why would God care about you? Yesterday was one of those low days that I remember myself saying at some point, “I’m going to have a rest from thinking about God and just try and enjoy what time I have”.

You see, I’ve been working on Psalm 19, trying to set it to music and I have to say this one was a struggle. Some music comes naturally but psalm 19 is one of those special psalms, that I didn’t want to mess it up – as if I can mess up God’s own words! But the weather was awful, rain and rain, many different types in one day – it’s our specialty in Britain.

So there was I lamenting the fact that the sunshine was no where to be seen, when the sun comes out in all its glory, and eventually I went to bed thinking, ‘God’s voice is so far removed from me’ – when I woke up with a start at 5am with answers to many questions ringing through my head so clearly. I had about an hour of God speaking clearly to me, before I gave thanks to God in prayer on my knees.

Psalm 19 has got so much to say if we would just spend time prayerfully reading and mulling over its words. God will speak clearly to us about our problems and the world if only we would stop thinking about God, and let Him speak.

The Perfect Revelation of the Lord

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

19 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.

In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

My prayer is that God will speak clearly to you today
and will bless you continually.

If you want to listen to the composed musical setting, you will find it here.
Many blessings – Graham
