I sat and watched a pigeon as it sat and watched me in the rain this morning. I was looking from the comfort of my window in the house and the pigeon was sat in the bush exposed to the rain.
I know this pigeon is not suffering but the image does make me wonder;
Are there others in our plain view who are suffering and could we be doing more?
Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
A pilgrimage is a journey to somewhere holy. The act of going somewhere and endeavouring to achieve this goal. I have had many journeys that I planned when I was younger but many of them fell by the wayside. How similar is our life? Perhaps we have many good intentions but through one thing or another, or harmless distractions they fall to the wayside.
Perhaps these distractions are not so harmless? Perhaps they are the enemy doing their best to divert us from doing what is the most important task that we need to do, to start and finish a journey where we are seeking God.
Our whole life I feel is a kind of pilgrimage, at least it seems that is how I go about some days, but should this not be every day? Should we not be on a journey to find God in our everyday lives and apply his teachings to everyday situations.
To pray, to be kind, to show love, to share God.
Tonight I pray for many who are, like this bird in the bush, alone tonight and through Christmas. May we be their light to visit them, to bring them presents and joy and love. May we be a shelter from the storm.
through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen
