Nature seems to have an unstoppable ability to heal the earth. Here we see some rocks that have been discarded and left for about a year and they have been covered with moss and ivy. Eventually we wouldn’t know they would be there. The scars that we humans seem to make on the planet seem to be healed by nature itself.
With all the talk of global warming, I wonder whether all these freak and extreme weathers are an attempt by the earths eco system to shake itself back to health.
Yes I believe the earth is alive, but only in a very similar way that trees are alive.
But this amazing eco system that is designed for us, is so often worshipped and given all the glory. It would be like people going up to a painting by Van Gogh and saying “what a wonderful painting to create itself!”.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Striving for a Crown
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
Worshiping the earth and not the creator God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit is like beating the air, it is pointless as it will not gain you salvation. Paganism is pointless as they worship the creation and not the creator – the Word – Jesus. Only by turning to Jesus Christ can we gain salvation.
Thinking of ivy growing over the rock, I feel like this passage from Corinthians as I feel like I have let God down in that I fail to pray adequately to do any good. I catch some moments here and there but is this really good enough? Apart from feeling sick tonight, I feel I must pray constantly and really devote some good time to prayer, and that is why when these reflections are over I will hopefully enjoy some time just with the Lord.
Dear Lord, help me through this time to find rest and recuperation so that I can once again be with you and I can once again run the race with perseverance.
Amen
