A grand oak standing against the early morning light.
I have said many times that trees fascinate me, but I do not worship them. Seeing beauty in nature doesn’t make me want to get down onto my knees and start to sing songs to them, or run around the tree singing songs. That sounds rather ridiculous, but I’m sure in my youth many people thought that I did that, when in fact I just used the trees as shelter so I could meditate and think.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid
(Luke 2:8-9 NKJV)
I wonder about angels as they must seem immediately to be from God because it says the Glory of the Lord shone around them. Trees have a type of aura that surrounds them, you can feel it. Perhaps this is just a natural warmth that emanates from the tree but perhaps it is partly God’s glory?
But even the angels tell us humans not to worship them as they know all glory must go up to God.
God has created this wonderful world and even in the darkness it emirates His glory. Let us rejoice and be glad in that God loves us.
Dear Lord, thank you for this creation and for the small mercies in this world. Help us to care for your planet to bring you glory.
Amen
