Today we went to explore the maze of elephant grass at Huntleys Maze in Preston. Sometimes you can cheat if the walls are not high enough, but there was no worries as the elephant grass was massive. You could have easily got lost in that maze, but after about an hour we escaped without a scratch, but with some muddy boots.
Psalm 104:14-15
You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart.
God’s grace and love extent everywhere and He also allows us to cultivate this grass for use in fuel. How extraordinary that we only need 1 ton of this Elephant grass to produce enough fuel to drive 750 miles. God designed and wrote the gene pattern for all flowers, crops, life forms and the very earth itself.
Even though we don’t acknowledge him that often, He still allows us to bring forth crops and explore new ways of using these plants. But I do worry that more and more is being spent on creating plants for fuel and not for food. People are starving and yet we still produce crops to feed the cars in our increasingly disconnected society. Gone are the days when we just walked to work. Do we need to go back to these days or at least re-connect with our ecological duty that God placed upon us as a job. Building the mud hut, and building cob walls today has also taught me that there is no waste in this type of building. You only dig up as much as you need and all the materials for the building are natural and grown in the area.
All these crops and blessings we are told are to strengthen man’s heart. To keep us hopeful that life is worth living because we are loved by God. But too many of us deny that God exists and this must be painful for God to permit.
I feel sometimes being ignored is the worst type of punishment, solitary confinement is the worst thing for a prisoner as it will drive them crazy. Babies without human contact, without love will die. God will not die without us but He must feel a huge hole as many deny him and refuse to make that connection to have a life living free from fear of damnation from our own sins.
Dear Lord, let us not forget you, let us be thankful everyday that you bring compassion through crops and the earth renewing itself.
Amen
