The picture is of an underground slate wall in a slate mine in Wales.
I was brought up in a catholic school but when I left school I turned away from my faith to seek many pagan and nature religions. I always felt a presence within nature itself. But after many years the Lord brought me back to Him (denominations I don’t think are important, but a truthful prayer life with the Lord is!)
Nature has the Spirit of God within it (in my view) and is not disconnected from God. If you study druidry this has many connections with Christianity and there where many Christians that were also druids (Sir Winston Churchill participated in their meetings), but druidry also fails to address many failings. What is truth and how do we measure truth, is there sin and how do we treat sin.
This of course does not prove God is within nature, but it was part of my journey. It was how I came to start my journey with God. I believe many people feel the presence of God in nature but do not realise that this is God trying to point them to him. This for theology buffs I suppose is called general revelation.
“What may be known of God is manifest in them for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse”
Today I was underground in Wales jumping around in a slate cavern. A wonderful experience but even though I was underground I still felt the presence of God. As a caver of many years I always felt at ease underground. Perhaps God’s presence, his glory, can be felt more underground or perhaps it is just me. Which ever it also made me dwell on the creation story. We were created last after the whole earth was finished. Why? As a crowning glory? But if God’s presence is in nature then God’s presence is also more within all of us. Perhaps we need only seek Him in prayer and repentance and He will come to us to make that presence known. After all Jesus is just waiting at the other side of the door for us to open that door.
Dear Lord, I pray for all those people that have doubts about your presence. I pray that you send your Son to them to lead their way and to send the Holy Spirit. May your presence be seen and clear and may lead many to your love through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
