You can see the boat riding above the sunset on the beach at Oostduinkerke in Belgium. It appears to be above the fiery glow of the sunset and it is held up by a pole. The sunset was wonderful tonight and at the side of the sunset a crowd started to gather as a light show with music was about to start. The sunset was beautiful, but nearly everyone wanted to watch the light and water show, to watch the man made light show. When God is showing his latest handiwork do we often look towards the work of our own hands?
Psalm 68
Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth;
Oh, sing praises to the Lord, Selah
33 To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old!
Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
34 Ascribe strength to God;
His excellence is over Israel,
And His strength is in the clouds.
35 O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.
Blessed be God!
God was putting on a more spectacular show but not many people were watching it, But some were. But this reminded me of when Jesus said the way would be narrow, it would involve suffering and pain.
Matthew 7:14
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find It.
But even if I sit and gaze at a sunset that shows amazing imagination, the line in psalm verse 35 sums it up more than anything. O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places, and this is true. How awesome is our God more than his creation.
God rides on the heavens, and here we can remind ourselves of Noah’s ark and the fact that God was holding them up, apart from the chaotic world around the boat. Jesus was the door to the ark, and we have a helper when Jesus has saved us, the Holy Spirit, as the spirit was on the very waves themselves guiding the boat through turmoil.
I pray for patience to come to all; to wait and watch God’s skills at work in his timescale, to heal the sick and to bring the good news to those that have a barrier in their mind to stop Jesus entering. I pray that the Holy Spirit will enter our hearts to guide us.
Amen
