hedge bindweed

Day 187 our identity in Christ

This creeping plant grows through our hedge. It is aptly named, hedge bindweed. Some of its flowers have opened by the time that I drive to work and some are still in their dormant state waiting for the sun to wake them. It is a notorious weed because even if you pull the roots and snap them, as they are quite brittle it can still regenerate from the smallest part. The seeds although not produced often can lay dormant for many year. Despite this being called a weed, it has an identity and it has a purpose. Perhaps the purpose is to make a boring green hedge look quite wonderful with its trumpet like white flowers, or perhaps it is to cover dead rotting plants. But there is a section that I tend to let it grow and not attack it, the wild pond area.

I have spent the day creating a song with children about their identity. It was very energetic but rewarding.

Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV)

11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

Ephesians 1:11 The Message (MSG)

11-12 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.

I believe my purpose, or at least a large part is to bring people to Christ. I have gifts and skills that I can use, but really it is trying to live as a disciple of Christ that I feel I can truly bring people to Him. It is not easy as daily I feel material urges and earthly desires. My Ego gets in the way of things sometimes, and at other times my fear of man. Not the fear that someone will kill me, although some Christians have got that fear. But the fear of how people will react when I am doing something. If I pray openly will I be mocked, if I open myself up to talking to new people, will I be knocked back, and many other earthly concerns.

God has all that we need for the day, seek him and ask for your needs.

Dear Lord, you alone are the creator that has created everything. You create wonderful weeds and flowers, you create awesome landscapes and displays in the sky. Help us all to emulate you Son so that we can be fill with the Holy Spirit and imitate Christ to ultimately lead others to you.

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
