Let the Children Come to Me
15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
17 Truly, I say to you,
whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Yesterday I was watching my son perform a few songs he had made up as he was bouncing up and down on the trampoline. He was full of joy and concentration to get it just right. There was joy on his face and he had practiced to get these song really right.
I sat there with Sue my wife and watched him with a smile on my face.
The words he sang went;
Love God, love God, love God, Love God.
Love him with all your heart,
Love him with all your strength.
Love God, love God, love God, Love God
He loves you where ever you are
It doesn’t matter if you are on another planet
it doesn’t matter if you’re happy or sad
Pray to God, Pray to God, Pray to God, Pray to God,
pray to him with all your heart,
pray to him with all your strength,
Pray to God, Pray to God, Pray to God, Pray to God,
He loves you where ever you are
I have never seen anyone pray and sing and bounce to God with such joy before.
Thank you Lord, may you bless him continually.
Time passes and I pray and ask for God to speak, but then God spoke;
Why can’t you pray like that?
I knew it was God because his voice affected me instantly. It hit me like a train, like a sudden shock. Why can’t you pray like that? A simple question that hit the mark. We worry so much about what to say and if we are saying it right, but children just say it as it is.
So tonight I will say a simple prayer, and tomorrow I shall endeavor to create the song Matthew made up and perhaps I shall post it in later weeks when I get many to sing along to it.
Dear Lord, help us all to pray more like my son, with energy, with strength, with exuberance, with joy, with conviction, with all our hearts. Help us all become as little children with no doubt in our minds about your path for us and how we must play it out with continual joy and love.
In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen
