Today was a day of spending time with family, with church and with dwelling on God. The picture shows tall grass in my back garden, before I cut it down and tidied up. Gardening can help to focus your attention on God, as when I do chores and routine things I can think about God and all other aspects about him.
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
You turn man to destruction,
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it is past,
And like a watch in the night.
You carry them away like a flood;
They are like a sleep.
In the morning they are like grass which grows up:
In the morning it flourishes and grows up;
In the evening it is cut down and withers.
This surely demonstrates our mortality, against God’s immortality. God has been around before anything was, and yet we still get on soap boxes and try to change the values that God holds dear. If you want to know what God is like, then read the bible, all of it! Yes I know it is a lot to get through but in that process I think it changes you, it opens up your mind to not jump at accusations but to experience the knowledge and the word of God.
But the joyful thing about God’s plan put simply, and I am a fan of plain speaking with no fancy words, that God has offered all a chance to live forever with God, beyond this mere small adventure. This life is like a day of grass growing up and perhaps been mowed down in the afternoon. It is short, and when we realise that God is offering to give us eternal life, and this is a mere test, a training ground, or a sample of some of the good things to come, then we can walk forward in joy and assurance that God is with us.
We have passing friends that leave us, and I have had passing friends that have gone, but I hope to see them in some way beyond this mere adventure. Until that time I pray God will lead us all into the light following Jesus Christ his one and only Son.
Dear Lord, thank you for my blessings I have received today. Thank you for the experiences I have experienced today. Thank you for all the moments that I have had today when you brought my mind back to you so that you can be our dwelling place. Lead me to your light, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
