Rock pools on the beach. Small islands in the rocks, kept apart, water warmed, life secure separate from the oceans predators.
Isaiah 55: 1-2
Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Relaxing with the family today at Seahouses on the east coast. Rock pools and sand a-plenty, no need to spend money just good old fun together with sand and squidgy seaweed between your toes.
At night I can see revellers walk past up to a club throwing away all social and most moral boundaries.
God offers a life of abundance that is not based in the material world and in that respect if you were trying to convince any of these revellers to join Jesus they would think you mad.
John 18:36
“My kingdom is not of this world”
But God offers more or rather beyond what we can imagine. God is the beginning of imagination and so just think how much more imagination God has.
God offers respite from this life of abundance, from life’s roller coaster of a ride, He delivers because he sends the comforter – the Holy Spirit.
Too many people focus on the here and now, which is not a bad thing – but to never think about the creator who made you and to never think beyond the here and now, perhaps never want to switch off the noise, the music, the flashing lights and to think about God the Almighty – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
But I also think about how we are called to be the light in the darkness. We are called upon to be these islands of comfort, Rock pools of warm water, so that through our life living out his message we can glorify God.
In our life, when we have accepted God’s challenge to join him, he will send us people that need care, support, give joy, or just speak the truth to and lead them in love to God.
Dear Lord, help me to see past all these flashing lights and mindless trinkets and focus on the true light- your son Jesus Christ. Help us all to resist worldly things and focus instead on you and your mission to help all with love.
Amen
