Flower in rain

Day 139 “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

Here we see a flower in the rain. Despite all the showers it is blooming and showing all of its colour.

1 Samuel 17

And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

38 So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. 39 David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off.

My son hopefully learned an important lesson today. Stop moaning about something and just go and do something about it. Rather than just stand around complaining about a lost toy lets just get on our knees and have a look for it – we found it tidied away!

All the men standing around complaining about how bad things were but none of them were prepared to do anything about it, any of them could have tried, but none had the guts to because they all did’t want to risk anything. David on the other hand could see past all this and plainly marched out to the giant with no armour or weapons that anyone would talk about and slew Goliath, and thus all the negative comments were turned into joyous shouts as a rallying cry to pursue their enemy and finish the job.

David also had tested his skills against fearsome creatures, against a bear and a lion, and he knew that he had it in him to do this task, he just needed to remain strong in his faith and carry out the plan. But people tried to add extra things, things that they might consider useful to the job in hand which just really get in the way to completing the task.

Sometimes I feel in teaching there are things getting in the way all the time to actually planning a good creative, fun lesson and delivering it. Others might consider these extra things important – like levels and extra data to spend hours filling in, rather than taking the time to stop and talk with the kids and really get to know them.

Are there extra things in your life that are stopping you completing your tasks, are there extra things getting in the way of you having a daily encounter with God?

Tonight Lord, I pray that the armour and weapons that others may feel is important is just swept away and the important things in life are put into their rightful place. The encounters and the relationships that matter are developed. The children are cared for, are guided to Jesus our saviour. I pray Lord that you take the burden off the people who are really feeling a burden and you guide them to a place that they can meet and spend time with you.

Go and the Lord be with you

Amen
