My family were travelling up to Scotland and we decided to travel the scenic route as it was near sunset. Yes my sunset mania is taking over! But this quick snap at the top of the mountains got my interest. On the radio was horoscopes about how each person will have various things happen to them because they are a star sign. I suddenly thought “How ridiculous is this on the radio!” They might as well have witches casting spells for listeners and tarot cards being read.
For me as a Christian, my faith is not following silly folklore and nursery rhymes, but the truth of Christ. Evidenced proof through the bible and through the work of the Holy Spirit guiding me in my life.
For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”– and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
This weekend at Christ Church I listened to the bible reading of Jesus’ transfiguration and it didn’t really hit home. The scripture does funny things like that! Peter is writing in his letter about when he went up the mountain with James and John and saw Jesus’ transfiguration. Eye witness accounts of Jesus’ actions and God the Father speaking to them – and God says to “listen to Him!”
It is this listening to Him that we must do if we are to experience Jesus and the change He can make in our life. Simply stating that I can not prove Christianity is not truth as I can, I can prove it is reasonable and based of fact, but there are many better writers on the historical Christianity. What I can evangelise is the experience I have had with God. I have not experienced God when exploring other ideas of a faith, and yes I spent many years wasting my time with other ideas and spiritual concepts – but they were dead for there is no God but God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They exist in perfect union.
It seems to me that many people follow these fables. Paganism and things like druidry is built upon rituals that have been imagined. Having examined druidry when I was young and undergone a course researching and discovering druidry, I eventually came to the realisation that it was built upon imagined laws, rules and concepts. Most of the pagan druids true teachings were destroyed by Romans – so why are there many orders trying to re-establish this belief system which has no fact and documentation.
It is also trying to merge with various Christian traditions to gain acceptance. Perhaps it even seems to state this is a philosophy so it can co-exist with all religions – but this is a lie. Any system that creates a ceremony where you praise the wind and the rain and the sun, and fails to praise the actual maker is folly, and more so because these can lead you to open yourself up to other spirits that can lead you into areas that are frankly dangerous.
There is no documentive evidence for druidry’s teaching apart from the basic ideas that there was three classes; Bards (poets, musicians), ovates (herbal healers) and druids (law makers and judges) and a few other small writings about them by the conquerors (which can be held suspect). Certainly not enough to re-create a pagan mass to worship the earth and sun and wind and other meaningless things.
As Elijah said to the followers of Baal at Mount Carmel after the Baal followers had failed to get any result, Elijah prayed;
Lord, answer my prayer so these people will know that you, Lord, are God and that you will change their minds.
Very often I have found people unwilling to change their mind, it would require change! The same was true for Peter, James and John, that they would be required to change.
These things display God’s nature only because they have been created by God to show His glory. But the true nature of God was seen in Jesus Christ who is our salvation.
Christianity is built upon the rock of Jesus, He is our one foundation. Jesus was a historical figure and there are thousands of documents that prove his existence on this earth more than Nero and Julius Caesar.
There are archaeological finds and writings that back the bible and Jesus’ story. The whole bible fits together, with all its prophecies making sense and all coming to fruition through Jesus.
There is the witness of the apostles and eye witnesses of people who saw Jesus in person.
There are the apostles and leaders that were tortured and went to their death proclaiming the resurection of Jesus – none of his apostles or disciples renounced him or said it was made up. Why would they go to their deaths evangelising a lie? Also Christians today go to their deaths being tortured and killed for Christ’s sake.
There is the eye witness of the Holy Spirit which has come into all Christians today and He is working to bring about God’s kingdom. Christians are working together to make the world a better place.
I could go on and on but simply put;
Dear Jesus, you came to me and saved me.
You transform one person at a time, and keep transforming.
You can do the same for anyone that accepts you.
I pray reader that you just pray and ask Him to come,
and show the evidence of His change He can make,
and ask another Christian to pray for your change.
